Their “culture” can be described as a “mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior[s]”. Hipster, it’s a slang term that according to our trusted source Wikipedia, first appeared in the 1940’s, was revived in the 1990s, and continued to be used in the 2000’s and 2010’s. It describes young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with musical interests mainly in indie rock. Time, in july 2009: “Everything about them is exactingly constructed to give off the vibe that they just don’t care.” At GloveAndBoots they’ve made a just awesome movie about the evolution of these… hipsters.
